Dr Nasser Jabbari

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Dissertation Supervisor



Areas of interest

Dr Nasser Jabbari's research interest lies at the interface between second language teaching and learning and digital technologies including online social media, computer-assisted second language learning, and gaming. Nasser has examined several aspects of language acquisition from learning in instructional contexts to discourse analysis and pragmatics.

He is also interested in the social, psycholinguistic, and sociocultural processes underlying second language acquisition and socialization both in naturalistic and instructional contexts. Nasser's current research focuses on digital game-based language learning, particularly in the context of commercially developed massively multiplayer online games.

 

Postgraduate supervision

Nassar is currently supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in the department.

Teaching

Currently, Nasser is teaching in the BA and MA modules within the department. 

Background

After completing an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and an MBA in Business Administration, Nasser received his PhD at Texas A&M University in the United States focusing on second language acquisition in digital environments. He has more than ten years of teaching experience at Tertiary level in three different countries: the United States, England, and Iran.

Nasser has taught several undergraduate and postgraduate level modules including second language teaching and learning, language testing principles, English language phonetics and phonology, second language teaching methodologies (ESL/Bilingual), and English for academic/specific purposes.
