Background

Akash is climate scientist with expertise in the broad domain of land–atmosphere interactions. His research primarily combines atmospheric transport models with physics and machine learning principles to uncover how feedback between vegetation and climate shape each other at timescales of days to millennia. He is currently leading an European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant project on developing a new theory on dryland formation.

Akash completed his PhD at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), United States, in 2019. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral scientist in Germany (Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research), Belgium (Ghent University), and Switzerland (EPFL). Before joining the University of Reading in 2026, he was a tenure-track assistant professor in the University of Maryland, College Park in the United States.
