Interdisciplinary School

Join a collaborative network. As an Arts & Communication Design student, you will have many opportunities for interdisciplinary exchanges. Our wide range of joint degree courses enables you to develop your independent practice across two or more disciplines.

Cross-departmental projects are actively encouraged. For instance, Typography students regularly design the catalogue for the Art degree show.

Art Degree Courses

In our dedicated studio space you will combine art practice, contemporary theory and history while benefiting from our established partnerships and connections with the creative world. 

Film, Theatre & Television Degree Courses

Join a creative community, with strong industry connections, at the heart of the UK's fastest growing screen industry hub and thriving theatre scene. In our purpose-built £11m facilities and industry-standard Minghella Studios you’ll learn practical skills and theory, while developing professional experience for your future career.  

Graphic Communication Degree Courses

With close links to industry, and a distinct approach to teaching design, The Department of Typography and Graphic Communication will help you become a well-rounded 'thinking designer'. By undertaking professional assignments you’ll graduate with a diverse and relevant portfolio valued by employers.

Spaces to create and collaborate

At Reading we offer you a huge variety of purpose-built facilities and special collections to inspire you and help you maximise your potential.

Facilities include versatile theatre spaces,  editing and post-production suites, 24-hour art studios, and workshops where you can experiment with welding and metalwork, sculpture and woodwork, and 3D printing and new technologies.

As well as our creative spaces, we also have numerous collections and resources to excite and enthuse, including on-campus museums, historical equipment, archives and manuscripts, and rare books.
