Staged reading of extracts from Tango (1965) by Sławomir Mrożek.
A new translation by Teresa Murjas, adapted by Jemma Kennedy and directed
by Andrea Ferran.
Arthur is a stern bureaucrat from a bohemian family. He decides to lead a revolution within his home, but his efforts quickly spiral out of control. This savage satire, which caused outrage when it was first performed, explores the devastating clash between youth and age in an unstable world.
This is a new translation of the play by Teresa Murjas, adapted by Jemma Kennedy, and commissioned by Reading Rep theatre. Reading Rep was awarded funding from Arts Council England to rehearse and stage a showcase of the production, and London’s Young Vic Theatre agreed to host the showcase, which will take place on January 7th 2013. The production has also received support from the National Theatre Studio, who will lend their space and use of their company actors for a two-day workshop of the play in December 2012.
The reading will be followed by a panel discussion with the cast and creative team.
