Enhancing your studies

Whether you want to improve your English language skills, learn a new language or experience life in a different country, we can help you get the most out of your studies at Reading.

As a student at Reading, there are a number of courses and programmes available to you from the International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) that offer enjoyable and exciting ways for you to enhance your degree and improve your CV.

English language support during your studies

We can help you develop your English language skills to support your academic studies – whether you need to improve your English in general or focus on English for academic purposes. Subjects covered by our range of courses include:

  • essay and dissertation writing
  • speaking English
  • academic grammar and vocabulary
  • presentation skills
  • social English.

Courses are free for fee-paying students, and you can sign up for a course at any stage in your studies.

Learn a new language

The ability to communicate in more than one language is a highly valued skill that sets you apart from the crowd. As a student at Reading, you can learn another language for your own personal development and enjoyment or, in some cases, as a module that's worth 20 credits towards your degree.

We offer courses at different levels for a range of languages, from European languages to Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Russian, as well as an introduction to British Sign Language.

Go places: Study Abroad

Spending part of your course living and studying in a foreign country allows you to explore the world and immerse yourself in a different culture, all while gaining a qualification.

Here at Reading, we can help you explore the opportunities available to you and provide the support you need to make the move.
