About the Global Study Lounge

The Global Study Lounge is a facility that caters for both home and international students as well as the wider University community, facilitating, supporting and providing materials for language learning and EAP (English for Academic Purposes). It is located on the 2nd floor of the Edith Morley building in room 230.

The centre includes a wide range of materials for students learning English and foreign languages, including books, magazines, DVDs and other media. More resources for language learning can be found in the University of Reading library; visit their page for a guide to resources available.

The Global Study Lounge can be used by individual students as well as (upon request) classes and organised groups.

The centre encourages independent learning beyond the classroom, offering a motivating environment in which learners develop and practise their language skills and supports learners in becoming independent in their studies. Staff and mentors advise students on resources and provide a range of different support session during the week, such as:

  • Conversation Clubs (30-minute group sessions on a range of topics of common interest allowing students to develop fluency in English)
  • Reading Clubs (45 minute group sessions allowing students to develop their reading skills in English)
  • Drop-in study advice with staff

To enquire about the times and availability of any of the sessions, please email us, call us or speak to a staff member.

Opening Hours

The Global Study Lounge is currently open 8:30am-4:30pm on weekdays. Please refer back to this page for opening times from April 2023 onwards.
