As well as our academic programmes, we offer a number of opportunities for professionals looking to develop their knowledge of typography, typeface design, archives and design practice.

We often collaborate with special interest groups and museums on our events. Organisations we've worked with in the past include the V&A, the Bodleian Library in Oxford, and the Museum of Printing in Lyon.

Type Design intensive (TDi)

Mature student working in typeface design workshop

Our two-week intensive programme on typeface design, TDi, will return in 2023. After evolving the course gradually over more than a decade, the enforced interruption of the pandemic gave us the opportunity to reflect more deeply on the contribution of the TDi format to the broader type field.

So, from 2023 we will focus more explicitly on three strands: experienced designers who require masterclass-level feedback and guidance on specific writing systems; engineers and managers who need to build an understanding of type projects; and academics and researchers working in the area.

To support these strands, we will be bringing together world-class experts, our famous Collections & Archives, and new facilities that have been in preparation during the pandemic. We plan for the learning materials from these sessions to be widely shared in a number of formats. Get in touch with Gerry Leonidas if you want to be kept up to date with our plans for 2023.

We run workshops, masterclasses and symposia on specific topics throughout the year. These bring together academics, students, and industry professionals from the UK and abroad.

All of our short courses offer hands-on access to material in our internationally significant collections and archives.
