Acting Director of Foundation Studies

School Co-Director of Academic Tutoring

School Director of Recruitment and Admissions

Senior Academic Tutor on the International Foundation Programme

Areas of interest

My current areas of interest are student support and international student recruitment.

My academic background is physics where my research was into electrically conducting elastic composite materials.

Background

I am currently the Acting Director of Foundation Studies and therefore oversee the running of the 4-year degree programmes with a Foundation Year for home students. This requires involvement in student recruitment, student induction, programme evaluation and student feedback, results analysis for progression and chairing the Board of Studies and Student Experience and the Student Staff Partnership for the programme.

Importantly, I am the principal contact within ISLI for colleagues in other schools for matters concerning the 4-year programmes. This includes liaising with Schools about the introduction of new 4-year programmes.

As School Co-Director of Academic Tutoring (SDAT) in ISLI with colleague Vicky Collins I’m responsible for the Academic Tutor system within the International Foundation Programme (IFP) and provide guidance to staff on other programmes in ISLI. I also monitor student engagement and conduct Stage 1 Academic Engagement and Fitness to Study meetings for students with low engagement.

A further SDAT role is reviewing Exceptional Circumstances Forms (ECFs) to determine if students should be given allowances for summative assessment that have been adversely impacted by circumstances outside of their control.

My activities as School Director of Recruitment and Admissions (SDRA) are mostly focussed on recruitment onto the IFP and 4-year degrees with an International Foundation Year. Over the year’s this has involved international travel to places which include Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Cyprus, Hong Kong and China to meet with agents and in attending recruitment fairs.

I am also responsible for creating promotional content for the IFP on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube and create promotional emails for prospective students while keeping the website and brochures updated.
