Essentials Your graduation and beyond Get ready to graduate Step two – Expression of Interest

Step two – Expression of Interest

You should receive an email invitation to express your interest in attending Graduation 3-4 months before a set of ceremonies. Your response to this will help us create the ceremony schedule.

This expression of interest process is used for ceremony planning purposes only. Your invitation to a specific graduation ceremony will be sent at a later date and will contain a link to the formal graduation registration process, which you will be required to complete. The Expression of Interest process and the Formal Graduation Registration process are two separate activities, both of which will need to be completed to ensure your attendance at your graduation ceremony.

Please note, if you express your interest by the deadline you will be given priority when completing formal registration and applying for guest tickets.*

Can I change my mind after I have expressed my interest?

If you change your mind after expressing your interest, you will be given the opportunity to amend your choice in response to the formal registration invitation email, or you can contact graduation@reading.ac.uk.

If you do amend your choice from not attending or deferring to attending, then the Graduation Office will endeavour to accommodate you and any guest ticket* requests that you may have. Please note, that due to restrictions on numbers allowed in the Great Hall, we may not be able to put you in your preferred ceremony.

    I want to attend

If you want to attend your Graduation then you need to express your interest by Sunday 12 March 2023. This will also mean that you will have priority when requesting guest tickets* during the formal registration process.

You should let us know if you have any disability or mobility difficulties by Sunday 12 March 2023 so we can make arrangements for you in your ceremony e.g. a ramp for access onto the stage, rather than the usual short flight of stairs.

I’m not sure if I want to attend

You should still complete the Expression of Interest process and indicate that you are planning to attend, so we know to include you in our ceremony numbers. You will receive a formal registration email invitation in early April 2023. If you have changed your mind and no longer wish to attend, you can confirm this during the formal registration process.

    I don’t want to attend

You should still complete the Expression of Interest process, so we know not to include you in our ceremony numbers. You will still receive a formal registration email invitation in early April 2023, as during this registration process you will be asked to confirm the details for your certificate and to provide us with a postal address for it to be sent out to following the ceremonies in July.

    What happens next?

After you have expressed your interest for graduation, you will receive a confirmation email. Please ensure that you have received this confirmation, as it is the only way to confirm at a later stage that you have indeed completed the Expression of Interest process, especially with regard to being prioritised guest tickets*.

If you indicated that you would like to attend or graduate in absence, you will be sent your email invitation in in early April 2023 inviting you to complete your formal registration. If you indicated that you would like to defer your graduation, you will still receive an invitation email asking you to confirm your choice. If you do not confirm your choice during formal registration you may instead graduate in absence as default.

When can I request guest tickets?

During the formal registration process in April you will be able to request guest tickets.*

If you successfully completed the expression of interest process and received a confirmation email by the deadline given, you will have priority when requesting guest tickets* during the formal registration process in April.

Why do I need to express my interest for Graduation?

You will be emailed from mid-February, inviting you to complete the expression of interest process via the RISIS Portal. If you express your interest by the deadline given, you will have priority when requesting guest tickets* during the formal registration process (which launches in April). The response from the expression of interest process are used to create the ceremony schedule.
