The Department of English Language & Applied Linguistics hosts a Language Studies Conference for PhD students every year. Contributing departments include: English Language & Applied Linguistics, Modern Foreign Languages & European Studies, the Institute of Education and Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences.

  • phonetics and phonology
  • clinical studies

MRes and PhD students present  their research projects. Supervisors and fellow students are invited to attend the presentations.

The conference always concludes with a panel session on the Language Studies Working Papers, an on-line peer-reviewed School publication for the dissemination of research conducted by PhD students and staff. The panel consists of the 2 current editors, Sophie Payne and Roopa Leonard, who, together with previous contributors to the publication, discuss the benefits of submitting an article to the LSWP and what's involved in the review process.
