What's Next?

Once you’ve successfully collected your Campus Card, here is what you need to do next:

1. Activate your card for access to your Halls

If you are living in University Halls of Residence which have a card entry, you need to activate your Campus Card first: to do this hold your card on the card reader of the main door of your building for 30 seconds. Following this, it will allow you access to your Building and Room. If you do this and your card does not work, you will need to visit the reception of your Halls for assistance.

2. Get your university username and set your password

Your university username and password gives you access to important things like your email, timetable and other resources. Follow the steps below to get your details after you have collected your Campus Card.

1. Log into the RISIS Portal.

2. Follow the link ‘Click here to collect your University username’

3. Make a note of your username and set your password

3. Access the University Wi-Fi Network

Once you have collected your university username and set your password, you will be able to connect to the University’s Wi-Fi network, Eduroam. This is different to the Wi-Fi network found in university halls. To connect to Wi-Fi on any device go to reading.ac.uk/wifi and follow the instructions.

3. Connect to Campus Wi-Fi

The Marvis Client app: to join Eduroam, the University's free campus Wi-Fi network, you will need to install the Marvis Client app on any personal device you wish to connect.

We recommend you download the app in preparation for arriving at Reading.

Search Marvis Client in your app store and visit Campus Wifi for further information.

4. Access your university emails

During Step 2 you will have logged into RISIS to collect your University username and set your password - you need this to be able to access your university email account. Next, download the official University of Reading student app by searching UoReading in your app store. Once downloaded, sign-in using your University of Reading username and password. You will now be able to access your university emails via the UoReading Student app.

It is important you have access to your student email and check it daily, as staff at the University will now begin to contact you at this email address instead of your personal email address.

5. Access your timetable

We recommend you now check your timetable to help you prepare for your first semester.

Your timetable will be sent to your University Outlook calendar and you can also view it directly in the official University of Reading student app. Download the official University of Reading student app by searching UoReading in your app store. Once downloaded, sign-in using your University of Reading username and password. You will now be able to access your timetable via the UoReading Student app.

Your Semester 1 timetable

New students will receive your Semester 1 timetable on completion of enrolment and, where necessary, module selection. Timetables will be complete by 2 October 2026.

Your Semester 2 timetable

Your Semester 2 timetable will be published on 9 December 2026.

We recommend you check your timetable regularly, ideally in good time prior to each session and at least once a week. This is because the timetable can change due to unforeseen circumstances. Equally, you may find that your regular date, time or room is different for one week.

6. Print any official university letters

You may need printed hard copies of your important documentation. You can print your documentation and official university letters from the self-service RISIS Portal.

- a letter to open a Bank Account in the UK

6. Download the UoR Welcome app

Find your Welcome Events, plan your personalised welcome.

There is a lot to see and do during Welcome Week. The UoR Welcome app is free to download and helps you make the most of your first week here.

You will have some compulsory sessions to attend as part of your degree induction and you can also find a wide range of events, talks, fairs and socials to attend to help you get to grips with university life.

8. Download the UoReading Student app

The official UoReading app is your digital companion for University life.

Access your timetable, email, campus maps, Blackboard, RISIS, latest news, events and much more.

Search UoReading in app stores and login only once with your username and password.
