Events

The SCR organises an annual calendar of events for members and guests.

Members and guests who take part in SCR events are asked to note that they do so at their own risk, and neither the SCR nor its members accept liability for any mishaps.

To have a look at past social programmes, here are the type of events that we organise:

a) Pre-pandemic: 2019 Autumn and 2020 Spring schedules

b) During the pandemic: 2020 Autumn and 2021 Spring schedules.

Our next Social Event is:-

Vertical Classics Wine Tasting

Friday 3 March, 6.30-8.30pm

Acacias Lounge, London Road Campus

We will sample classic French wines, taking the same wine at different ages to see how they develop, hence a “vertical” tasting. The SCR cellars at Acacias and Park House hold wines laid down for maturity by previous wine stewards, sometimes for decades. The selection will be from our holdings of red Bordeaux, Rhone and Burgundy. The oldest wines date back to 1988 and the newest is from 2018. In addition to this we will sample white wine from Chateau Margaux from 1988. According to some this “Pavillon Blanc” wine is the finest white wine in Bordeaux. Normally it would be drunk much younger, and at this age can be expected to have changed dramatically since bottling.

Bookings with payment (£25.00 per member and £30.00 per guest, to include light food).Wine account details from Charlene McGroarty in the SCR Office: scr@reading.ac.uk.Please note your booking will be remain unconfirmed until payment hasbeen made in advance of the event.

A maximum of 20 people can attend this event so book early to avoid disappointment.

Host for the evening:  Nick Bardsley. Wine Steward
