Copyright law protects the creators and rights holders of original works, including printed, written, digital, and electronic materials. Unauthorized copying, scanning, downloading, sharing, or distribution of copyright-protected material may constitute copyright infringement unless permitted under applicable legislation or licensing agreements.
The LRC expects all users to comply with copyright regulations when using library resources, electronic databases, online content, and printed materials.
University Copyright Policy
The University treats breaches of copyright regulations seriously and reserves the right to take appropriate disciplinary or legal action where necessary. In Malaysia, copyright matters are governed by the Copyright Act 1987 and related legislation.
Users are responsible for ensuring that any copying, printing, scanning, uploading, or sharing of materials complies with copyright law and license conditions associated with subscribed electronic resources.
What is Permitted?
Limited copying of copyright-protected material may be permitted under the principle of fair dealing for purposes such as:
- Non-commercial research
- Private study
- Criticism or review
- Reporting of current events
Any use must be fair, reasonable, and proportionate, and must not adversely affect the legitimate interests of the copyright owner.
Electronic Resources and Digital Content
Electronic journals, e-books, databases, and other digital resources provided by the University are licensed for academic use only. Users must not:
- Share login credentials with others
- Systematically download large quantities of content
- Distribute copyrighted materials without permission
- Upload licensed content to public websites or file-sharing platforms
- Use materials for commercial purposes
Misuse of electronic resources may result in suspension of library or University access privileges.
