Commission News Item, 24 November 2020

OFFICIAL CONTROLS - Commission publishes its Health and Food audits and analysis programme for 2021

The European Commission has published its 2021 programme for monitoring the implementation and enforcement of European Union (EU) legislation in the policy areas of food and feed safety, animal health, animal welfare, plant health, EU quality standards and certain areas of human health protection. In total, the Commission will carry out 349 controls, including 217 audits and similar controls, and 132 desk analyses. The selection of these controls results from a careful prioritisation process, based on legal obligations, risks in the concerned sectors and the Commission’s political priorities, in particular, the Farm to Fork Strategy. These controls are essential for consumers to be confident that their interests are protected.

The work programme also presents other activities planned in 2021 by the Commission’s Directorate for Health and food audits and analysis. These include development work to contribute to progress towards the pesticide reduction targets in the context of the Farm to Fork Strategy. Other activities concern networking with Member States’ authorities and the management of the Better Training for Safer Food programme.
