UROP

UROP is now part of the Reading Internship Scheme (RIS).

RIS offers undergraduates the opportunity to undertake short-term, paid internships with charities, external organisations, as well as internal University of Reading schools and departments. The scheme runs throughout the academic year (part-time during the semester and full-time or part-time during summer) advertising a wide range of internship opportunities including research, marketing, finance, charity work, project management, data analysis, and much more.

Students

All RIS internships are advertised on MyJobsOnline on a rolling basis as and when we get them from our employer partners. If you’d like to find out more about the Reading Internship Scheme, visit our webpages or log into MyJobsOnline with your student credentials and filter by Reading Internship Scheme to view opportunities.

Staff

Academic departments are still able to take on students as research interns but this will go through the Reading Internship Scheme. Key items to consider:

  • Students will no longer receive a bursary but instead will be paid a wage through Campus Jobs. Within Campus Jobs’ Temporary Worker Framework, there will be a new ‘UG University Internships’ rate of £11.79 per hour plus oncosts (coming to around £15.79 per hour). Academic departments are responsible to cover these costs – RIS cannot provide a grant.
  • Internships can be anytime throughout the academic year – part-time during the semester or full-time/part-time during summer.
  • Reading Internship Scheme will advertise research internships on MyJobsOnline which is the University of Reading’s student jobs board. RIS is very popular and in high demand by students – in the 2023/2024 academic year, RIS has received over 1,700 applications by students with average application per internship being 14 so we are positive your research internships will receive appropriate numbers of applications.
