Teaching and Research Technician (Biology)

Responsibilities

My role is to support both the Biology and the Pharmacy, Psychology and Process technical teams, based mainly in the Hopkins Building and the Pharmacy Labs. I work term time (32 weeks a year) so supporting the teams at their busiest times. I am involved with setting out and clearing up practical classes, preparation as required and I am responsible for housekeeping of the Hopkins teaching labs and prep lab, and the Pharmacy labs.

Career history

I qualified as a Primary age teacher in 1984 and taught all age ranges from reception to secondary over a 12 year period. After having children I worked at their primary school as a teaching assistant for 11 years. I had a couple of years at home pursuing my interest as a home baker before joining Technical Services at the University of Reading. I worked as an Ancillary Technician in Operations based in Harborne Building for 8 months before moving into my present role of Assistant Technician in Cluster 1.
