Summary module description:

The aim of this module is to integrate and apply both core and specialised knowledge obtained in the MSc Real Estate Programme and to demonstrate originality in the understanding and systematic application of this knowledge.  

Aims:

The aim of this module is to integrate and apply both core and specialised knowledge obtained in the MSc Real Estate Programme and to demonstrate originality in the understanding and systematic application of this knowledge. 

Assessable learning outcomes:

Upon completion of the module, students should be able to: 

• demonstrate a systematic understanding of the issues and problems that need to be resolved in order to manage a problem; 


• deal with complex ‘real world’ property market issues both systematically and creatively and to make sound judgements in the absence of complete data; 


• formulate testable hypotheses; 


• demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of applicable techniques in the context of the problem set; 


• collect and critically evaluate property market information; 


• demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems and in planning and implementing research tasks.

• Enhance analytical and research skills 


• Develop case study skills 


• Develop report writing skills 


• Enhance the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment, in particular through independent learning.  

Outline content:

An individual final project in the students’ chosen specialism.

Case study based problems supported by appropriate introductory seminars.

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

The module assessment consists of a major individual assignment comprising an applied report within the students’ chosen programme specialism. Guide length: 5,000 words. Submission date - first week of September. 

All word counts are for guidance only. Unless the specific requirement of an individual assignment states that the word limit is strict, then there is some discretion with the guide length.

The below information applies to students on taught programmes except those on Postgraduate Flexible programmes. The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

• where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
• where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.

You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.

Assessment requirements for a pass:

The pass mark for this module is 50%. 

Reassessment arrangements:

Reassessment will be by the same method as for the module’s original assessment requirements, subject to variation by the Examination Board where appropriate.
