Lord Zuckerman Research Centre & RSSL

Members of the Lord Zuckerman Research Centre and Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) are welcome to use the Library for reference and private study. This includes access to all printed material on the open shelves. On visiting the Library you will be asked to provide photographic proof of identification, personal information about your self and agree to abide by the Library Rules (PDF) .

Joining the Library

There is no charge for members of these organisations wishing to join the Library. Membership will confer borrowing rights only, it will not allow automatic access to e-resources. To apply:

  • Complete an External borrowers application form (PDF)
  • Bring it and a letter of introduction from the Centre Manager to the Welcome Desk between 09:00 - 17:00, Monday to Thursday or 10:00 - 17:00 on Friday

You will be given an External borrowers card which enables you to borrow:

  • five Standard loan items
  • these can be borrowed for up to three weeks
  • you will be fined 80p per day for late return 

Items can be borrowed and returned  during Library Opening hours on the Ground Floor. Return items via the external book drop to the right of the Library entrance outside of these hours.

Using self-service features on the catalogue

When you register you will be given a PIN which you can use to access the self-service features on the catalogue, such as renewing your loans, placing holds (on Standard loan items only), and viewing your account.

We use Javascript to improve your experience on, but it looks like yours is turned off. Everything will still work, but it is even more beautiful with Javascript in action. Find out more about why and how to turn it back on here.
