The institutional login allows you to use your University username and password to access protected e-resources such as databases, e-journals and e-books.
This system has been adopted by our suppliers to allow them fine control of access to their services. However it has been implemented in a variety of ways so you may need to look for a number of different names to know when to use it.
Use your University username with email suffix (e.g. email@example.com) and password to access online resources where you see one of the following options:
- Institutional login
- UK Federation login
- Shibboleth login
How do I access a resource using the Institutional login?
When you try to access a resource using the Institutional login you will be taken to another web page. This is known as the WAYF - as it effectively asks Where Are You From?
Simply type "Reading" into the search box or select "University of Reading" from the list of institutions and click on the Select button.
You will then be directed to our login page. Just login with your University username with email suffix (e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org) and password.
If you have any problems please fill in our E-resources problem report form.
