LGBT+ History Month is held across the world every February.

This year, we hosted a diverse set of events focusing on the national theme of Activism and Social Change, #SocialActivism. Events included workshops, discussions, crafts, social gatherings such as coffee mornings and zine-making, and a speaker series featuring powerful and inspirational women.

Notable events included the annual Wolfenden Lecture with Matthew Toresen, a Punk and Alt discussion on queerness, and Asylum Monologues: "This is Who I Am". The month concluded with a Big Gay Games Night and LGBT+ PowerPoint party.

Wolfenden Lecture: In conversation with Matthew Torsen

This year's Wolfenden Lecture with Matthew Toresen - Passion to Progress: Advocating for Equality - was a massive success.

Matt, a Reading alumni and campaigner for human rights, spoke about their journey and life dedicated to LGBT activism.

Punk and Alt discussion and workshop

We discussed the connections between punk and other alternative subcultures and queerness. We considered the music, fashion, and social activism linked to each group and to each other.

After the discussion, we held a patch-making workshop and sewing circle.

This is Who I am

Asylum Monologues was the first script created for the Actors for Human Rights project, a theatre group that explores human rights stories through performance.

Ice and Fire Actors for Human Rights performed for us and told asylum stories in the words of the LGBTQIA+ people who experienced them.

Big Gay Games Night

To celebrate the end of a successful month, the Games and Role-playing Society (GARPS) and the LGBT+ Society led the crowd on a 24-hour games bonanza. They played all your favourite games and more.
