Bodycon

Recruitment is closed for this study

This study will aim to determine how our gender and lifestyle factors influence our percentage body fat and bone mineral density, and how we distribute fat around the body.

Body fat composition is now considered to be an important factor in relation to the development of chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. For this study, we are looking for healthy men and women aged between 18-70 years to attend two study visits.

The main study visit will be around 90 minutes. We will provide you with a low-fat meal to eat the night before the study visit and then ask you to fast overnight for 12 hours. When you arrive at the unit, we will ask you to provide a small urine sample and then we will perform a number of measurements to assess your body composition. This will include a total body scan using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). This machine uses a very low dose of x-ray to measure your bone mineral density and body fat distribution.

After we have performed the measurements of body composition we will collect a blood sample before providing you with breakfast and then ask you to complete a diet diary at home for four days and wear an activity monitor during this time. There is no payment for this short study but we will provide you with the results of the body composition measurements.
