The Health Innovation Partnership (HIP)

The University of Reading (UoR) and Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT) are committed to closer working. We recognise that through collaboration, we can improve patient care and clinical excellence. We can achieve this by developing new teaching and learning provision, through research and its translation into clinical practice, and by sharing facilities and by jointly exploiting commercial opportunities.

History of the HIP

The Health Innovation Partnership (HIP) was established in September 2021, after the recent success of its predecessor the Joint Academic Board (JAB). The HIP is the new formal group to expand on the existing collaboration between the organisations.

Following the joint strategy meeting between UoR and RBFT colleagues in November 2017, the Joint Academic Board (JAB) was constituted, with members from both organisations to award funding to support our collaboration over a three-year tenure. The Joint Academic Board (JAB), established in March 2018, was tasked to deliver a three-year programme of collaborative research and education innovation funding and to create a recognition scheme of clinical and academic excellence.

The JAB had successfully established the Collaborative Innovation fund, of which 37 projects were awarded seed funding, as well as a Recognition of Academic Excellence scheme.
