Security Service - About us

The overarching purpose of Security Services is to safeguard people and property at the University of Reading. This is achieved collaboratively with a number of internal and external partners, in particular Thames Valley Police, Berkshire Fire & Rescue and South Central Ambulance Service.

There is an in house team of around fifty uniformed Security Services staff operating round the clock every day of the year. Patrols, both on foot and in marked vehicles are conducted across Whiteknights Campus; London Road Campus; Greenlands Campus; and other University owned property.

All members of the team are appropriately trained to respond to fire and intruder alarm activations, medical emergencies as first responders and licenced under the Security Industry Authority.

Command and control of routine and emergency incidents is directed from the main control room located within Whiteknights Campus using a dedicated digital radio system. There is capability to access over five hundred CCTV cameras, including Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and a suite of fire, intruder and panic alarm systems. People can access Security Services by using one of two telephone numbers or visiting the control room in Whiteknights Campus.

For information on how to report a crime, stay safe on campus or for general security advice please visit the Security Services website.
