Weekly Wellbeing Events Schedule

Spending time relaxing and connecting with fellow students is an investment in your wellbeing. There are wellbeing events taking place across our campuses and in the local area every day of the week.

Take some time out from your studies and join us at one of our weekly wellbeing events! 

Please note: These events take place during semester time only, for events taking place during the vacation period at UoR and within the local area, check out the Me@Reading student events portal.

Monday

Free board games in Flex, 7-10pm every Monday. 
Come along to the chaplaincy 13:00 – 14:00 on Monday’s to enjoy a delicious homemade soup in a welcoming environment. Donations of £2.50 to the Mary’s Meals Charity. 

Sport In Mind are a charity uniting people in sport and physical activity to improve the lives of those experiencing mental health problems.  Sport In Mind sessions take place every week, all year around and are free to attend.

Monday at 11-12pm Walk with Christine. Meet in the middle of Christchurch Foot Bridge, Caversham, Reading, RG4 8BY

Monday at 2-3pm Yoga with Ann. Meadway Sports Centre, Conwy Cl, Reading, RG30 4BZ

Tuesday

Come to the SportsPark for a session of Netball, ever Tuesday 7pm - 8pm. SportsPark hall courts 5-8 

All sessions are £3.50 unless students have purchased a ‘SportsPark Fitness & Rackets’ membership and then attendance at any Knights Active Pay to Play session is included in their membership.

Every other Tuesday, 16:00-18:00, during semester time at Reading Students’ Union. Join Reading Students’ Union’s Welfare Officer, Ella, for a relaxing afternoon of creativity and community. Tuesday events offer a variety of fun and engaging activities, from painting to crafting and more. Come unwind, have fun, and connect with fellow students. Free to join but please reserve your space to ensure there are enough materials for everyone. 
Come along to the Chaplaincy 12:00-14:00 for an informal event aimed at international students who would like to practice their English.

Wednesday

Come to the SportsPark for a session of Tennis every Wednesday.

Tennis: 8pm - 10pm, Indoor courts 1-3 

All sessions are £3.50 unless students have purchased a ‘SportsPark Fitness & Rackets’ membership and then attendance at any Knights Active Pay to Play session is included in their membership.

These year-round award-winning cafés are open to all students. Join every Wednesday to meet students from across the University, practice or help others with conversational English, learn about different cultures and perspectives, or simply have a break from your studies and chat! Free tea, coffee, and biscuits provided.

You can join us in-person in the Global Study Lounge, Edith Morley Building, Room 230, (just turn up - no pre-booking required), or sign up to the online sessions to meet students from Reading's branch campuses and partner institutions! Sessions are run either in-person (13:00 - 14:00 UK time) or online (11:00 - 12:00 UK time) on alternate weeks (see below). During the summer vacation sessions are run simultaneously. UK-based students can use their participation towards one of the RED awards.

An informal student study group exploring theology. No faith required, and free lunch provided. Come along every Wednesday, no need to pre-book.

The Life Tools programme is a series of free talks designed by experts to help you transition into university life and enhance your student experience. The programme allows you to be proactive and take control of your learning, personal and professional development. You can join the talk online or in person. Head to the Life Tools page on Essentials for the upcoming schedule and topics.

We have regular Dr Bike sessions on campus where a mechanic will check and fix your bicycle for free, charging only for any parts that might be needed. To keep your bike in top condition come along to one of our regular Dr Bike sessions.

The sessions will take place every Wednesday in the Palmer Quad, 12:00 - 14:00, during semester time. We are usually located in the area directly outside the Palmer Building or centre of the quad.

Thursday

Join us every Thursday during semester time for a free Life Tools talk to support your wellbeing at university.

Thursdays at the Chaplaincy, 10:30-12:00. The Newcomers Group exists to welcome family members - both UK and international - of those studying and working at the University of Reading. A friendly and welcoming group of British volunteers and "newcomers". Children are welcome and toys and books for children are available. The Newcomers group meets every Thursday morning in university semester-time. Free tea, coffee are free and biscuits. Open to all, please email w.newcomers-group@reading.ac.uk for more information.

Thursday at 1-2pm Tennis with Nick and Alison at the Outdoor tennis courts, Reading University.

Thursday at 6:30-7:15pm jog and walk with Sally and Izzy, meet near the statue at Palmer Park

Friday

17:00 - 19:00 on Fridays. Drop by for some socialising over tea and cake, followed by a 20 minute candle-light night prayer (on 21 February and 14 March Shabbat Prayers).

Our Friday Get-Togethers take place every 2 weeks during Semesters 1 and 2. They take place 15:00 – 17:00 in the Global Study Lounge, Edith Morley Building, 2nd Floor. They are informal so you can drop-in and take part in a variety of different activities and meet new people! Relax and unwind before the weekend. Activities include, but aren’t limited to, crafting, origami, mindfulness colouring, Zine-making, quizzing and board gaming.

Saturday

If you are a student living in halls, come along to a Halls event, taking place every Saturday 14:00 - 16:00. These events are run by your Hall Warden team and offer free food and drink and crafting activities for you to enjoy. The location and activity changes each week, look out for an email from your Hall Mentors to explain what the coming weeks activity is – book early as the places fill quickly. All events are free.

Previous events include creating room decorations, water bottle painting, clay modelling, ceramic heart painting and needle felting. To find out more about the programme of upcoming events, check out the Home at Halls app.

Come to the SportsPark for a session of basketball, ever Saturday, 7:45pm - 8:45pm on the sports hall courts 1-4

Come to the SportsPark for a session of squash or tennis, ever Sunday.

Squash: 5pm - 7:30pm, squash courts

Tennis (club doubles matchplay): 7pm - 9pm, Indoor courts 1-3

Student Life Events

Student Life Events are free no-alcohol social events hosted throughout the year! Meet new people, enjoy board games, crafting and snacks. 

The full schedule of upcoming Student Life Events can be accessed on the events section of the Me@Reading student portal. There's no need to sign up, just come along on the day - we'd love to see you there!
