The Robert D Pearce Prize is a student award that recognises the work of students on research and is focused on supporting innovative ideas in the field of sustainable development.
The aim for the prize is to support academic ideas surrounding the field of sustainable development.
Considerations for awards from the prize will be given to those students who demonstrate clear progress in advancing the following themes through their thesis or dissertations:
- International Business and Sustainable Development
- Innovation with focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)
- Conservation and Ecology

The Prize is sponsored by a fund set up by an individual close to the late Professor Robert D Pearce, in honour of his legacy as a world-renowned scholar who had a particular interest in the socio- economic field. Professor Pearce was a Professor of International Business Emeritus of the John H Dunning Centre for International Business, Henley Business School, and Department of Economics, University of Reading, UK - where he inspired and supported many students and colleagues. |
Who is eligible to apply?
All students enrolled in a programme of study (BA, PG or PhD), either at Henley Business School or the University of Reading, will be able to apply for an award from the prize fund.
What is the prize worth?
There will be one main overall award of £500, awarded for a PhD thesis - along with an additional four extra sums of £200, of which two awards will go to a PG thesis/project and two will go to a BSc/BA thesis/project.
How to apply and further information
Applications can be made via the online application form.
Applicants will further have to submit their own work (confirming that their Programme Head is aware) or have their work recommended by either a Professor, Tutor or another Academic familiar with the applicant’s work. All work submitted will be reviewed by an internal Academic committee, to ensure that the work submitted meets the criteria outlined. Entries will be welcomed on a fluid basis, to reflect the academic year. However, applications will only be considered twice a year.
The closing date for submittals will be 12 May for summer 2023 graduations (undergraduates and PhD students) and September 29 2023 for winter graduations (postgraduate students).
