Essentials Campus Jobs Our Responsibilities and Yours

Our Responsibilities and Yours

What we expect from Campus Jobs workers and what you can expect from us.

What we expect of you as Campus Jobs Workers:

  • Prior to undertaking any assignments, you must provide documents demonstrating your right to work in the UK.
  • You must read and accept the Campus Jobs contract and accept your assignment offer before starting any work.
  • Do not work more than 20 hours per week during term-time. The definition of term-time varies between different levels of studies, the differences are explained on the Combining Work and Study page.
  • If you are on a visa that restricts the number of hours you can work each week , you must ensure that your work across all paid and unpaid work does, with all employers, does not exceed the terms and conditions of your visa. It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not work more hours than your visa permits.
  • Although Campus Jobs will not have any role in policing or reporting on your attendance at lectures etc, we expect you to ensure that your work commitments do not adversely affect your academic studies.
  • You must not accept shifts when you have timetabled study.
  • Do not take on more work than you can manage, if you feel that your work is impacting your academic studies, speak to Campus Jobs at the earliest opportunity
Ensure that you communicate effectively with your manager. If you cannot make it into work for any reason, notify them in good time and if you cannot get hold of your manager contact Campus Jobs on 0118 378 4499 as a last resort.
  • Submit your timesheets in accordance with payroll deadlines to ensure prompt payment.
  • If your assignment is extended, do not undertake work until you have received an extension offer through Campus Jobs. You will not be able to submit a timesheet until you have accepted the extension offer.
  • Submit your timesheets for approval within 40 days from the end of the week in which you completed the work.

What you can expect from us:

  • Campus Jobs will endeavor to establish more part-time, on-campus jobs available to our students.
  • hen you register for Campus Jobs, we’ll provide you with a contract that allows you to work across a variety of roles on campus (UPP, RUSU, Co-op and the Disability Office are not covered).
  • When you have been offered work, we’ll provide you with an assignment offer via email. This will provide all the details of your assignment (working hours, location, core duties, etc.).
  • Campus Jobs will, on a monthly basis make efforts to contact line managers in relation to approving their pending timesheets. However it is recommended that all workers keep an eye on the status of their timesheets via the Timesheet Portal. Workers should regularly communicate with their line managers regarding submitted timesheets to allow time for them to be reviewed and approved in line with the manager approval deadlines.
  • We will be the first point of contact for queries relating to temporary work on campus. You can come see us in person at the Carrington building, or contact us via campusjobs@reading.ac.uk or by phoning 0118 378 4499. Where possible, we will resolve all queries/complaints or escalate them to the relevant team.
  • On a termly basis, we’ll collect feedback from you on the Campus Jobs service and your experience as a worker, with the aim of improving our service and encouraging managers to do the same.
