Capacity-building workshops and seminars

The Benefits Realisation team led a number of interactive workshops across the UK in the last twelve months. The team have also presented on the ASSET project and use of different media to enhance feedback provision at a wide range of T&L events, as well as being invited to present at University Learning and Teaching seminars/conferences across the UK, as below:

Engagements with Senior Managers

The team are aware that in order to facilitate change in relation to feedback practices it is essential that there is support from 'the top down' within institutions. We therefore led an event in March 2011 in collaboration with the HEA Centre for Bioscience to bring together senior managers representing a number of HEIs from the north of England to share the outputs of both the Sheffield Hallam and Roehampton workshops. In particular, this was an opportunity to discuss the main findings from the 'challenge and success cards, which had been used in the workshops to collate colleagues' experiences of using different technologies to support feedback provision. The data from these cards will be used as the basis for a journal article/paper.

A summary of the BR team activities and outputs over the past 12 months:

  • Five workshop events with over 110 participants (including senior managers).
  • Six additional presentations at HEIs and national T&L conferences.
  • Collaboration with two existing networks (MELSIG and HEA Centre for Bioscience).
  • Updated web site on video feedback www.reading.ac.uk/videofeedback
  • Collation of data relating to staff experiences in using technology to enhance feedback provision ('challenge and success' cards - see attached summary).
  • Creation of a booklet of case studies covering the use of a wide range of media to enhance feedback provision Media-Enhanced Feedback case studies and methods (PDF 880KB).
  • Emergent network of individuals committed to working as 'change agents' for media-enhanced feedback across the sector.
