Christmas closure: key dates and services

Can you believe it’s nearly Christmas already?
Don’t forget that the University will close for Christmas from Monday 24 December and will reopen on Wednesday 2 January. The staff pay date for this month will be Thursday 20 December.
Before you leave for the Christmas break, please take a moment to ensure that all doors and windows are securely locked, with valuables stored away securely for safekeeping. Please also ensure that all electrical equipment is switched off (with the exception of essential research equipment).
Accessing offices over the closure
If you plan to work over the Christmas closure period, please make sure you inform Security Control (securitycontrol@reading.ac.uk) in advance – no access will be granted without prior notification.
Security are based on the ground floor of Whiteknights House (north entrance) – you can also call them on extension 7799 (internal) and 0118 931 6300 (external calls and for emergencies).
Student services outside of term time
The spring term will begin on Monday 14 January. Student services will remain open outside of term time, closing at 14:00 21 December and resuming at their normal times on 2 January 2019. The Library and URS buildings will be closed from 24 December to 1 January. Opening hours from 15-23 December and 2-11 January will vary and can be found on the Library Opening Times page.
The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL)
The MERL will remain open on 22 and 23 December and will open again between 27 and 30 December 2018. For full details please see their website. Normal opening times will resume after 2 January 2019.
