Celebrate International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia

IDAHOBIT Tuesday 17 May

Tuesday 17 May marks International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBiT), a global event that seeks to raise awareness of the challenges faced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender and intersex communities.

Special Events

In partnership with RUSU and our LGBT Plus Staff Network, the University will be holding several events to mark the day- all staff and students are welcome to attend.

At 1.30pm, a rainbow flag will be raised on the flagpole between the Library and Whiteknights House on Whiteknights Campus. The ceremony starts at 1.00pm and will be presided by Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell. Representatives from UEB, RUSU, our LGBT Plus network and the Beaumont Trust will also be in attendance.

Following this, a workshop on Gender Identity will be held at Thet Win Aung Boardroom, RUSU, at 2.00–3.00pm. Later, a panel discussion on the importance of allies in the LGBT movement will be held in the Van Emden lecture theatre at 7.30–9.00pm.

Show your support by dressing in rainbow colours!

Why not show your support of IDAHOBiT by wearing the colours of the rainbow? As we’ll be raising a rainbow flag, we’ll be also on the lookout for staff and students across campus sporting rainbow coloured items- send us your photos via Facebook and Twitter!
