Taught and Drop In & Learn Sessions
For those who prefer to work in a class environment, we offer a range of training sessions, including topics such as PC MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), email and the Web (using Internet Explorer and FrontPage). There is also help available for the less confident, which we advise all the inexperienced - or terrified - users to attend: our Beginners Word course aims to get users started at a gentle pace.
All our sessions offer a mix of "hands on" exercises and IT Services staff support and guidance. Some sessions include demonstrations of more involved tasks. All provide a set of notes, containing class exercises and further help for you to take with you afterwards. We also offer attendance certificates to all participants.
Note that some IT training specifically for staff, such as Blackboard, Web Accessibility and Outlook, is arranged through CSTD (Centre for Staff Training and Development) and has to be booked through them.
We also offer "Drop In & Learn" opportunities at the following times in S@il 105 (1st floor of the Main Library):
- Tuesday 10:00 - 12:00 (term only)
- Wednesday 10:00 - 12:00 (term + vacation)
- Thursday 14:00 - 16:00 (term only)
Any of the topics on the training session list can be pre-selected and support staff will be available to help you get started and to handle any queries or problems that arise with the training. This enables those who do not want to work in a class situation to gain some support working at their own pace, and also enables users to learn the topic they need, when they need it.
