Kim Coles - Digital Capabilities Officer

""

I have worked in HE for over 10 years, primarily as an Academic Librarian, liaising with staff and students across a range of disciplines including arts, humanities, and medicine. I joined the University in January 2018 as Academic Liaison Team Manager, delivering information skills training and support in person and online. Prior to my time at Reading, I worked at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, providing information literacy and literature search skills support to students based in London and across the world on the University's distance learning programme. At the University of Reading, I have supported academic staff to create and manage effective online reading lists using Talis Aspire software; converted face to face information literacy teaching to online lessons using Xerte, and have recently spent a year working as part of the TEL team; contributing to professional services staff training on using the Blackboard Ultra VLE.

I am interested in online teaching and learning, and the use of technologies to support collaborative learning in the face to face and online classrooms. I'm particularly interested in supporting students' transition to and throughout Higher Education, and scaffolding and development of digital and information literacies.
