Microsoft Excel - An Intermediate Guide (Level 2)

Aims

To enhance the use of Microsoft Excel for those with a basic knowledge of the software (i.e. those who have mastered the topics covered in the Microsoft Excel - An Essential Guide (Level 1)). In particular, this course focuses on some of the facilities of interest to scientists.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • select data ranges efficiently
  • use multiple worksheets
  • sort datasets and select subsets
  • rotate and wrap text within a cell
  • understand the difference between x-y and other chart types
  • use a secondary axis and add a trendline to a chart
  • customise graphs
  • use named ranges in formulae
  • fix a cell reference in a formula
  • perform simple data analysis, including pivot tables

Format

One 2-hour hands-on session, with additional demonstrations via overhead projection.
