Qualifying for your degree

To progress to degree study in the University of Reading, you must satisfy the following academic and English language requirements*

The standard progression rule is currently the standard rule for most UoR degree programmes

 

Standard Progression Rule

60 - 60 + 40 average

A Grade I Pass (60%) in each of two 40 credit modules (including any specified modules) and an average of at least 40% in the remaining two modules but with no module mark below 35%

A higher progression rule applies for progression to MPharm Pharmacy and to BSc Speech and Language Therapy.

70 - 60 - 40 - 40

A Grade I pass with Distinction (70%) in one specified 40-credit module, a Grade I pass (60%) in one other [specified] 40 credit module and no module mark below 40%.

*For BA Accounting and Business, a successful supplementary application and assessment are also required, with acceptance subject to final confirmation by Henley Business School.

BSc Finance and Investment Banking

BSc Finance and Management with

An average of at least 65% overall with a Grade I pass with Distinction (70%) in Mathematics for Finance Economics and Business, a Grade I pass in one other 40 credit module, and no module mark below 40%.

BSc International Business and Finance

An average of at least 65% overall with a Grade I pass with Distinction (70%) in Mathematics for Finance, Economics and Business, a Grade I pass with Distinction (70%) in Introduction to Business and Management and no module mark below 40%

BA International Business and

Management

An average of at least 65% overall with a Grade I pass with Distinction (70%) in Introduction to Business and Management, a Grade I pass in one other compulsory 40 credit module, and no module mark below 40%

English language requirements for Undergraduate degree programmes

Speech and Language Therapy

IELTS 7.5 with at least 7.0 in each skill

BA International Business and Management

IELTS 7.5 or a pass at 65% in the International English

module assessment

Degree programmes in Arts, Humanities and Social Science (except Politics, Economics and International Relations)

IELTS 7.0 or a pass at 60% in the International English module assessment.

Degree programmes in the Henley Business School (except BA International Business and Management)

IELTS 6.5 or a pass at 55% in the International English module assessment.

 

*Different entry requirements may be specified for January-start programmes. Please enquire if you would like more information.

Students who pass the Programme but do not qualify to progress to any degree programme will be entitled to an International Foundation Programme Certificate.

FAQS

Can I change my chosen degree programme during the foundation year?

Providing you are studying the appropriate subjects, you can request permission to change to an alternative degree programme. It is normal for such requests to be agreed although it is at the discretion of the relevant School or department.

Do I have to apply through UCAS for my degree programme at Reading?

No. Your offer of a place on the foundation programme guarantees you a place on your degree programme providing that you gain the necessary grades in the final foundation year examinations.
