CONTAMINANTS / PESTICIDES - Proposed future GB MRL amendments - Chlorothalonil

Maximum residue levels (MRLs) for pesticide residues in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin are established in Great Britain (GB) under Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 [See Note below].

GB MRLs are set by inclusion in a new Statutory Register.

This eBulletin is to notify all stakeholders of recent amendments to the GB MRL Statutory Register, setting new statutory levels.

Chlorothalonil is no longer an approved active substance in GB and all plant protection product authorisations have been withdrawn.

As harmful effects on human health cannot be excluded, it is proposed to lower all MRLs for chlorothalonil to the limit of quantification.

The draft Reasoned Opinion of the review of the MRLs for chlorothalonil is available here.

The proposed date of adoption/publication of the new MRLs is 5 September 2022 and the proposed date of entry into force of the new MRLs will be six months after the date of adoption/publication.

To meet the UK’s international trade obligations, the measures have been notified to the World Trade Organization and this notification can be found at this link.

On completion of this process, an update on the final MRLs agreed, along with the date of entry into force, will be communicated via HSE’s eBulletin service.
