SPIRIT DRINKS - Commisssion consultation: Amendment of definition of ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin

Commission consultation: Amendment of definition of ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin

A copy of the draft regulation is available on this site (click on image). The consultation closes on 21 March 2022.

For more details, see the Commission's consultation page: Amendment of definition of ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin. The following is taken from the start of the Explanatory Memorandum:

Context of the Delegated Act

The definition of and requirements for ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin were not substantially changed during the revision of Regulation (EC) No 110/2008 and the definition and requirements as set out in the current Spirit Drinks Regulation (EU) 2019/787 are outdated from a technical/scientific point of view and no longer correspond to the technical parameters currently applied by Union producers and most laboratories of analysis.

Consequently, Article 5 Regulation (EU) 2019/787, providing for the definition of and requirements for ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin, needs to be amended to bring those technical parameters in line with those currently used by the industry.
