If there are any problems with the content of your exam timetable, it is important that you contact the Examinations Office immediately by emailing examinations@reading.ac.uk.

Please note that it is not possible to receive any specific exam dates before the formal timetable release for each exam period.

For information on your specific room and assigned seat number see the Room and seat number for your exams section.

Q. What are the exam dates? Or when is the resit period?
A. Please see exam periods and scheduling page

Q. How do I access my exam timetable?
A. When the exam timetable is published, if you are due to sit exams you will be sent an email to your student email account. This email contains a link to RISIS where you can view your personal exam timetable.

Q. What type of exams show on my timetable?
A. Your RISIS portal Exams timetable shows centrally organised in-person and remote digital exams only. Other assessments such as in-class tests, in-class practicals, Blackboard tests, oral language exams and coursework, do not appear on your RISIS exams timetable.

All assessments other than centrally organised exams will be organised directly by your Academic department and the Exams Office do not have details of these, so please speak directly with your department for further information.

Q. What is on my exam timetable?
A. The exam timetable shows your candidate number and details of the exams you are expected to sit, including the venue.

For in-person exams, it shows the date, start time, duration, module/paper code and venue.

For remote digital exams, your timetable will show similar information, but the location will show as ‘online exam’ and the duration will show as 8 hours. If your exam is due to be released for a shortened fixed window, your School will be in touch to let you know the exact details and format of your exam and the window of time the exam is accessible. Your School may also have special instructions (e.g. set start times, assessment types or choices), relating to your online digital exam so please check for these emails or Blackboard announcements.

See Remote Un-supervised Digital Exams (RUDE) page for more information.

Q. Where are the exam venues?
A. A link to campus maps will be provided for all in-person exams with your timetable. See Location of in-person exams.

Q. An exam is missing from my timetable.
A. Firstly please check with your Academic department that you are supposed to be sitting the exam and that it is a centrally organised exam rather than a department organised assessment such as an in-class test or course work assessment. Your timetable will only show centrally organised in-person written exams and Remote digital un-supervised exams.

If your academic department confirms that the missing exam is a centrally organised and that you should be sitting it, contact the Exams Office (telephone 0118 378 5522 or email examinations@reading.ac.uk) as soon as possible, so we can look into this for you.

The Exams Office can give details of the time/date/location of the missing exam and provide an updated exam timetable if needed.

Q. I have an exam clash.
A. Please speak with your Academic department who will determine if the clash is a result of an error in module registration, or due to a centrally organised exam and a department organised assessment being arranged at the same time.

Your department will then advise the Exams Team accordingly and if required, the Exams Team can resolve the clash and provide an updated exam timetable.

Q. My classmate is sitting the same exam, but their exam timetable shows a different exam venue.
A. It is very important that you go to the exam venue shown on your personal exam timetable. Some large exams are split between more than one venue. Some students may have exams scheduled in a separate venue (e.g. student allowed rest breaks for medical reasons).

If you have received confirmation from DAS that you have been moved to a Special Arrangements venue and this has occurred after the timetable release, then you will have received an email from The Exams Team, confirming your venue change. Please ensure you go the Special Arrangement venue stated in the email, rather than the venue showing on your RISIS Portal timetable.

Q. What is the candidate number on my exam timetable?
A. This is a 5-digit number that you write on each exam answer booklet/sheet that you use in the exam. The number is unique to you for the current academic year. This means that your exams can be marked anonymously. Each year you will have a different candidate number.

Q. I have booked a holiday that clashes with my exam dates, can my exam date be moved?
A. It is not possible to move an exam date to accommodate a personal holiday. If you choose to not attend an exam due to a holiday, you will receive a mark of 0 for the exam. Please speak with your Student Support coordinator in advance if you plan not to attend an exam due to being on holiday

Q. I will be out the country on the date of my in-person exam, can this be moved online instead?
A. No, it is not possible to move an In-person exam online. The University expects all students to prioritise their exams by being available to be on campus, for the whole of the relevant exam periods for their programme. This includes the August/September resit period.

If you choose not to attend an exam due to being out of the country, you will receive a mark of 0 for the exam. Please speak with your Student Support coordinator in advance if you plan to not to attend an exam due to being out the country.

Q.I have work experience arranged across the exams period, can I take the exams on a different date instead?
A. No, the University expects all students to prioritise their exams by being available for the whole of the relevant exam periods for their programme. This includes the August/September resit period.

If you choose not to attend an exam due to undertaking work experience, you will receive a mark of 0 for the exam. Please speak with your Student Support coordinator in advance if you plan not to attend an exam due to work experience.

Q. I am unable to attend an exam due to a Religious observation, can the exam be moved?
A. No, we cannot move an exam date once the timetable has been published.

Ahead of each exam period, students will be given an opportunity to tell the Exams Team about any religious observations that may mean they cannot attend certain dates during the exam period.  If feasible, this will be considered when the timetable is being written. However, not all requests can be accommodated, due to the complexity of the timetable and the limited time available during the exam period.

Please see Religious Observations for more information.

Q. I have been scheduled for a resit exam that I do not wish to take, what do I do?
A. The University expects students to attempt all resits that they are eligible for. Please speak with your Academic Tutor for further advice.

Q. Will my resit exam be online or in-person?

A. Your resit exam will be in the same format as the original examination, so if this was a digital exam, the resit will be digital and if this is in-person written exam the resit will also be an in-person written exam.

Q. I am moving home for the Summer and will not be living in Reading during the resit exam period. I am scheduled for in-person resits, can I take these online instead?
A. No, it is not possible to move an In-person exam online. The University expects all students to prioritise their exams by being available to be on campus, for the whole of the relevant exam periods for their programme. This includes the August/September resit period. If you choose not to attend an exam due to being out of the area, you will receive a mark of 0 for the exam.  If required, temporary accommodation on campus is available to book via the Stay at Reading webpage. Please speak with your Student Support coordinator in advance if you plan to not to attend an exam due to being away from Reading.
