Alumni Careers

Helping you navigate life after graduation. Career support is available for an additional 2 years after your course ends

Support for you

As a University of Reading graduate, you remain part of our community. Our career guidance, events and opportunities are here whenever you need them.

Your career path may take many directions, and wherever you are in your journey, we’re here to support you to take your next steps. Our service offers practical, tailored guidance to help you move forward after graduation.

Create an Alumni MyJobsOnline account so you can:

  • Book a 1:1 appointment with one of our Careers Consultants,
  • Register to attend one of our Careers and employer-led events including bespoke summer programme,
  • Browse vacancies advertised to our students and graduates.

Many of our resources are free to access externally, and we also recommend the Prospects website which may signpost you to specialist pages for the industries you may be interested in too.

We offer a year-round programme of careers workshops and employer events, both online and on campus. These sessions are designed to help you:

• build key employability skills,
• explore career paths and sectors,
• hear directly from employers,
• grow your professional network, and
• create standout applications that secure interviews.

You can register for events through your Alumni MyJobsOnline (MJO) account.

If you’re not yet sure what direction you want to take, explore our Finalist Futures pages. These resources are designed for our final-year students who are exploring options, making plans and preparing for life after the University of Reading – just like you! They will help you reflect on who you are, what you want from your future options, and the opportunities available to you.

Graduate roles, including positions with immediate start dates, are advertised on MyJobsOnline. You can also visit our ‘Explore industry options’ section to find job boards relevant to your career interests and to develop a more focused and effective job search strategy.

Browse our resources for guidance on CVs, applications, interviews and more. As a graduate you can continue to access a range of digital tools designed to support your career development, including:

• Graduates First – Practise psychometric tests and prepare for recruitment assessments (to activate your graduate account, email careers@reading.ac.uk)
• GoingGlobal – Explore opportunities and advice for working internationally (register before your university email account expires to retain full access).
• LockIn China – Search for job opportunities in China
• Forage – Take part in virtual experience programmes created by employers

You’ll also find practical articles and insights on navigating life after university on our Careers Blog.

As a graduate, you can book personalised one-to-one careers guidance with our Careers Consultants via your Alumni MJO account. Appointments are available in person or online, giving you the flexibility to choose what works best for you.

In a one-to-one appointment, we can help you to:

  • explore your options and consider possible career paths
  • plan your next steps
  • tailor your CV and applications
  • prepare for interviews and assessment processes

Book an online or in-person appointment with a Careers Consultant through your Alumni MyJobsOnline account. If you’re having trouble accessing your account, email us at careers@reading.ac.uk, call +44 (0) 118 378 8359, or visit us on the first floor of the Carrington Building.

Careers can support you with guidance, resources, and tools to help you explore enterprise and entrepreneurship. Whether you’re at the idea stage or ready to take the next step, we can help you build your confidence, develop your skills, and understand what’s involved in working for yourself.

As a Reading alumnus, you’re an important part of our community — and your experience can make a real difference to those following in your footsteps. There are many ways to get involved and support current students:

• Share your career story. Inspire our students by sharing your journey after graduation. Your experiences can help them explore what’s possible and build confidence in their own paths.
• Volunteer as a mentor. Provide guidance, encouragement and insight as a Thrive Mentor supporting students who would benefit from your experience.
• Speak at an event. Join one of our panel discussions, or deliver an employer-led session to share your career journey, organisation, expertise and industry knowledge.
• Recruit our students. Promote your internships or graduate opportunities, connect with talented candidates, and raise your organisation’s profile through on-campus stands and Careers Fairs.
• Advertise a role. Share your vacancies with us and reach motivated students and graduates via MyJobsOnline.

If you’re interested in getting involved, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch at careers@reading.ac.uk to start the conversation.

Each year, we ask for your support in promoting your department - and the University - to future students.

You will be contacted about the statutory Graduate Outcomes Survey by post, email, text or telephone. This national survey captures what UK graduates are doing 15 months after completing their degree, whether you’re in work, further study or exploring your next steps.

We love hearing from our graduates and celebrating your successes beyond Reading. The Alumni team regularly collects graduate stories for their communications and invites former students back to campus to inspire and support current students

If you're looking for guidance with your next steps after leaving Reading, you can book an appointment with a Careers Consultant on MyJobsOnline or contact our team—we’re here to help.
