Careers Events

Every year, the Careers Centre provides a professional and extensive programme of career development workshops and on campus recruitment events. There really is something for everyone, whatever stage you are at.

For example, one of Headstart workshops could help you...

  • Gain an insight into potential career areas, whether that be teaching, business, public sector etc.
  • Get some top tips on getting into various jobs, usually from the recruiters themselves.
  • Practise psychometric assessment tests.
  • Learn to make your job applications stand out via skills workshops run by graduate recruiters.

As well as Headstart, there's the opportunity to speak to a selection of the 80+ employers who attend our high profile Careers and Placements Fair held on campus every October - see our Careers Fairs page for more information on these events.

Explore, Grow, Compete...

Each event is themed depending on the stage you are at in your career development:

  • Explore: sessions exploring various career options, often featuring panel speakers sharing expertise and experience of their area.
  • Grow: sessions to assist career development, employability and personal literacy skills.
  • Compete: sessions to gain specific information on employment and development opportunities.

      Attendance - important information

We understand that other priorities, like assignment deadlines, may mean you can no longer make it to one of our events. All we ask is that you tell us by cancelling your booking using My Jobs Online - it only takes a moment to do. This enables us to get an accurate picture of how many students will be there which is important as speakers have often come a long way and given up a lot of their time to come to Reading. Failing to honour a commitment like a workshop booking unfortunately gives them the impression that Reading students as a whole are unprofessional and makes them less likely to target the University in future.
