What we Offer

For comprehensive information on Careers Centre events, job and placement vacancies, and careers information and CV and application support.
Careers information
The Careers Centre has a range of free employer brochures, application forms, directories, occupational guides and casebooks which are available to take away.
Quick queries
For brief ten minute discussions with a careers adviser on a non-appointment basis during term-time, Monday to Friday from 11.30am to 2pm, and at advertised times during vacations. See rota.
Careers interviews
Subsequent to a quick query discussion, in-depth confidential guidance is available by appointment. This will be available within two weeks of request.
Headstart events
Sessions include CV writing, interviews, practice psychometric tests and employer led activities.
Jobs and Placement Opportunities
- Dedicated JobShop based in RUSU (opening October 2012) to help you find part-time or holiday jobs whilst you study.
- Future vacancies for finalists, immediate start graduate vacancies, term-time, vacation work, placements and voluntary work accessible via My Jobs Online (formerly Target Connect).
Department careers sessions
Link Careers Advisers will deliver careers talks and Career Learning sessions by arrangement with Departments.

- Part-time and graduate careers recruitment fairs held in the Autumn term.
- Employer presentations and interviews on campus.

- Comprehensive careers information and advice that is appropriate and accurate.
- Careers advice that is informed and impartial.
- Staff who are qualified, competent, experienced, helpful and friendly.
- To be kept informed of The Careers Centre services and events through The Careers Centre website, email notices, posters, handouts and careers presentations.
- An answer to your careers query on the same day whenever possible (when visiting the Careers Resource Centre)..
- Pre-booked interviews to be available within two weeks and are confidential
- To be able to contact us during opening times and at other times by emailing careerscentre@reading.ac.uk.
- To receive services that are free to University of Reading students and graduates. We sell a range of careers publications, full details are available at The Careers Centre reception and on our website.
- Staff working to the codes of practice from the Quality Assurance Agency, the Association of Graduate Careers Services and in accordance with the University Policy on Careers Education, Information and Guidance. We also work to the University equal opportunity policy, and the Data Protection Act. Details of all these are available on request.
- To be contacted by us to gather your comments and recommendations to help evaluate and improve our services to you.
- A response to any telephone or email enquiry within five working days.
Complaints
Complaints will be dealt with promptly and in adherence to the University's Complaints Procedure. In the first instance, you should put your complaint in writing to Jane Standley, Director of The Careers Centre. Unresolved issues can be referred to Jennifer Ghandhi, the Director of Student Services, University of Reading, Carrington Building, Reading RG6 6UA. Any complainant still remaining unsatisfied will have their complaint referred to the Vice Chancellor.
We expect...
- You to keep appointments and attend any events for which you have booked a place.
- You to use careers information resources responsibly.
- That you will let us know your views of the Service to help us improve; occasionally this may involve completing an evaluation questionnaire or completing forms to put into the Suggestion Box held in the Careers Centre.
