Who is eligible?
Q: Who can apply for the Reading Internship Scheme?
The scheme is exclusively for University of Reading undergraduate and postgraduate students. The scheme is open to all year groups.
International students
The Reading Internship Scheme (RIS) welcomes applications from international students, under the Tier 4 (General) Student Visa route the following conditions apply to full time students studying on an undergraduate or postgraduate course regarding work:
- Work for up to 20 hours per week during term time
- Work full-time during vacations
- Do a work placement as part of your course
If you are in your final year, student visas usually expire 4 months after the course end date stated in your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You would need to ensure the internship met with these terms and conditions.
Working beyond your student visa under Tier 2
Tier 2 sponsorship requires that:
- The salary is a minimum of £20,000 per annum (or more for certain roles/jobs)
- The employer is on the Sponsor Register of employers
- The post meets the UK Border Agency definition of a skilled job for Tier 2 sponsorship.
Unfortunately, the majority of Reading Internships Scheme positions do not meet the minimum salary requirements for Tier 2 sponsorship
