Papers of Lord Wolfenden

Lord John Wolfenden (1906-1985) was Vice Chancellor of the University of Reading from 1950 to 1963, having previously been headmaster of Uppingham and Shrewsbury schools. In 1954 he was appointed chair of the Home Office committee set up to debate changes to the laws relating to homosexuality, and the Wolfenden Report recommending decriminalisation was published in 1957.

This collection of his papers includes typescripts and notes of many speeches, mainly 1950s-1980s, personal and business correspondence, and material relating to the publication of his memoirs in 1976.
