Papers of Herberth E. Herlitschka

Herberth E. Herlitschka (ca1900?-1970) was an Austrian-born translator of the works of many English writers, inlcuding W.B. Yeats.  He came to England in 1938, eventually settling in Switzerland after the war.

The collection contains papers relating to W.B. Yeats, consisting mainly of typescripts of Herlitschka's own translations of Yeats's work into German, with some biographical and critical material. There are also some of Herlitschka's own poems, along with around 400 letters referring largely to proposed or completed translations of novels, including work by Storm Jameson, Aldous Huxley, David Garnett.
