Summary module description:

This module deals with the principles of pedagogy and subject knowledge across the core and foundation subjects in the National Curriculum and the areas of learning of EYFS.     The portfolio supports the trainee to demonstrate the required evidence towards the Teachers’ Standards necessary for the award of QTS, particularly TS 3.

Aims:

To support trainees to develop the pedagogy and subject knowledge to teach NC subjects and EY areas to enable them to develop robust evidence to address the Teachers’ Standards at the level expected of a trainee at the end of their training and necessary for the recommendation for the award of QTS.

Assessable learning outcomes:

On successful completion trainees will be able to:

• Demonstrate achievement of the Teachers’ Standards at the level expected of a trainee at the end of their training programme and necessary for the award of QTS.

Outline content:

University based taught sessions and supported School Experiences will develop subject knowledge and knowledge and understanding of subject specific pedagogy, in order to provide evidence towards achievement of the Teachers' Standards at the level expected of a trainee at the end of their training programme and necessary for the award of QTS.

Global context:

Trainees would be expected to put into practice all they have learnt with regard to global awareness into their school experiences.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

University sessions will focus on developing knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning, as well as subject knowledge.   In school, the trainee will work alongside an experienced teacher and will implement the ideas and principles met during the taught sessions. They will learn through practical experience, discussion, reflection, and teacher feedback.

Trainees will present a portfolio of evidence to support their achievement of the Teachers’ Standards at the level expected of a trainee at the end of their training programme, specifically with regard to pedagogy and subject knowledge.

Formative assessment methods:

The development of knowledge and understanding of the NC subjects and EY areas is formatively assessed through discussion, assessment and School Based Tasks.

Penalties for late submission:
The Module Convener will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day[1] (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;

where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
