Student Services Reception

Student Services Reception

Visit the Student Services Reception in the Carrington Building for advice and signposting to services such as Immigration, Careers and Disability.

Contact Student Services for help and support in the following main areas:

  • Immigration and international support: if you are coming from overseas, this team can advise you on anything from settling in to immigration.
  • Financial support and advice: The place to go to find out about fees, and funding advice. The Student Financial Support team are also responsible to administering some of the many Scholarships and Bursaries available at the University, most commonly the Reading Bursary. Please visit the Student Services Reception for more information on the awards you may be entitled to. The team also offers a drop in service three times a week for students who have questions or problems they would like to discuss regarding their financial situation. Please visit the Student Services Reception to find out the drop in times for each term.
  • Careers advice: Our services are for all students, all disciplines and all years, including postgraduates and researchers. You can find the Careers on the first floor of the Carrington building and online.
  • Campus Jobs: Campus Jobs is a one-stop shop for all temporary work at the University, providing part-time opportunities that are safe and secure for our students. The service is a joint initiative between Careers and the HR department. Roles are available all over campus, in bars and cafés, administrative teams, academic departments, and in the library. Find out more at Campus Jobs.
  • Disability support: The dedicated disability advisory service within Carrington is on hand to offer support. Other sources of advice come from: your personal tutor, other students, wardens within halls, Junior Common Room (JCR) Welfare Officers, University Security (at any time of day or night), and Student Union Advice Service.
  • Counselling and wellbeing: our highly skilled and experienced counsellors and mental health advisers can provide advice, support and guidance on a wide range of issues. We will also be running our Life Tools series of events on topics such as settling in at university, feeling stressed, and keeping cool under pressure. These events are open to all students, and there is no need to book.
  • Student Services Reception: Questions about enrolment, Council Tax certificates, Railcard applications, Oyster applications, replacement campus cards, Verifications of awards or academic progress and Transcripts for Graduates. The Reception is available throughout the teaching day from 9am -5pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am-4:30pm on Friday (term-time).

Contacting your Student Support Coordinator

Ask a Question is the main method for contacting us. Please do not send multiple, duplicate enquiries as there is currently a large volume of enquiries and sending multiple messages slows the speed of response further.

You can telephone between 10:00 and 17:00 each day, Monday to Friday.  Please see the information provided with the Support Centre locations for details of when you can visit to speak with a Student Support Coordinator in person. Over Summer, Support Centres are open as usual.

If you wish to speak with a specific Student Support Coordinator please telephone or use Ask a Question to check their availability and arrange an appointment.

Additional support is provided by your Academic Tutor and the Student Services teams. For more information on the range of services offered in the Carrington building, contact the Student Services Reception:
