Sports

There's a sport for everyone, whether you're a beginner or developing an old hobby. Find activities from RUSU clubs to the SportsPark facilities.

With some of the best-equipped facilities of any UK university, Reading is a great place for to play sports, whether you are an enthusiast or an absolute beginner.

Sports for all

The SportsPark and RUSU work together to provide a wide range of both friendly sport sessions and competitions for students. These take place throughout the year in league and tournament format. At several points during the year most clubs run drop-in Give it a Go sessions. These are training sessions for students to try out a brand new sport, with absolutely no cost and no commitment. The best advice would be to try and attend as many of these different sessions as possible.

There are over 50 sports clubs ranging from popular varsity sports such as football, rugby, hockey and netball, to a variety of martial arts, as well as a number of more unusual sports including korfball, ultimate Frisbee and clay pigeon shooting. There is also a boat club which makes use of fabulous facilities along the River Thames. There really is something for everyone to try out and enjoy. Every club is welcoming, friendly and encourages people to take part and try out.

As part of the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) the University enters a number of competitions to allow you to compete against other institutions. Matches and training often takes place on a Wednesday afternoon, but some clubs train on weekday evenings with matches on the weekends. Find out more about all the sports clubs on offer.
