PhD students can apply for a doctoral loan from the government of £26,445 for courses starting after 1 August 2020. Unlike undergraduate loans, the amount you receive is not dependent on your household income. The loan is paid to you in installments every year for the duration of your course and repaid once you start earning over a certain amount.
However, funding for doctoral loans is different if you normally live in Wales.
There is extra support available if you have a disability. More information is available here.
While studying a doctoral course, you will not be eligible for an Adult Dependents' Grant, a Childcare Grant or Parents' Learning Allowance from student finance.
