Starting university can be a difficult and scary experience regardless of your age, and even more so if you have been out of education for a few years.
Resources
The Mature students guide has been created just for you by other students.
Our campus Library has created a resource for new mature students that can help you settle in and find the resources you need across the university. Visit the Library's webpages to find information on studying as a mature student at Reading.
Support from your Students' Union
Reading Students' Union run a Mature Student Network, where students are free to attend and meet other students in similar circumstances. This is also an opportunity to bring up issues to the Mature Student Part-Time Officer.
There is also a Mature Student Society on campus. See how you can get involved by visiting the Mature Students Society webpage
Support if you have children
There are rooms in halls suited for mature students with room for individuals, couples and families. Reading Students' Union Advice Service is happy to offer support in your housing journey. To get advice for student accommodation, access advice and support from the Students' Union.
The Little Learners Day Nursery & Pre-school is based on campus, this nursery is open to children of both students and staff. As places are limited and demand is high, please register your interest in a place for your child as early as possible. As a student, you have the option to book a full-year contract or a 36-week contract, depending on your childcare needs. Visit the Little Learners Day Nursery & Pre-school webpage for further information.
Further information on childcare options available in Reading, including nurseries, childminders and after-school/breakfast clubs is provided on the Reading Borough Council Childcare website.
