Throughout 2026, we’ll be celebrating our 100-year anniversary through a programme of specially curated events.

Our centenary events will showcase the past, present and future impact of the University and its people.

Collecting and sharing your memories

Last year, we assembled a project team consisting of colleagues from across the University of Reading, Reading Students' Union, The Friends of the University, and local partners.

In the summer and autumn of 2025, the project team collected memories from the University community – including staff, students, alumni, and members of our local community. These memories have been curated into a programme of activities that we’d love to share with you.

Centenary Heritage Tours

Multiple dates from February to December 2026

  • A programme of heritage tours and new heritage leaflets designed by The Friends of the University.
  • Step into our story and discover our past through a series of guided walks. Join us to uncover fascinating moments from our history, explore architectural gems, enjoy the beauty of our green spaces, and celebrate the generations who have made the University what it is today.

  • This trail of curated pictures, including memories submitted by our University community, will be displayed across our Whiteknights and London Road campuses.
  • Brought to you in collaboration with local arts organisation, Jelly.

RAG Parade

Sunday 17 May 2026

  • The RAG parade returns for 2026, with the theme of 'Past, Present, and Future'.
  • For over 50 years, the RAG day parade was the highlight of the Raising and Giving (RAG) calendar, bringing students and the community together to raise money for numerous charities.
  • We're calling on students, staff, alumni and the local community to help us make this one of the most memorable parades yet.

Sparks, Parks, Halls & Balls: 100 Years of Campus Life

Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May 2026

Sparks, Parks, Halls & Balls is a vibrant, site-specific celebration of 100 years of the University of Reading.

Set on our Whiteknights Campus, this immersive promenade production invites audiences to journey through a century of student life. From the University’s earliest days to the bustle of a 1950s common room, the energy and protest of the 1970s, and the unmistakable sounds of the 1990s – bringing past moments vividly into the present.

Guided through familiar and unexpected spaces, audiences will encounter stories, memories and moments that reflect the lives of those who have studied, worked and gathered at Reading over the last hundred years.

This is an invitation to wander, listen and connect with the many voices that have shaped campus life.

Inspired by in-depth interviews with students, staff, alumni and members of the local community, alongside discoveries from the University’s archives, these real memories form the heart of an experience that celebrates community, creativity and impact.

University of Reading Alumni Varsity

Saturday 30 May 2026

  • Sports club alumni will be invited back to relive Wednesday afternoon, participating in a series of sports matches against current sports clubs.
