Staff Profile:Dr Amelia Hood
- Name:
- Dr Amelia Hood
- Job Title:
- Postdoctoral Research Assistant
- Responsibilities:
- Areas of Interest:
I am interested in sustainable farming, and in win-wins for biodiversity and production in particular. I like conducting manipulative ecological experiments, and am especially fascinated by the weirdness of invertebrates.
My current research focuses on co-designing biodiversity interventions with arable farmers in the UK. I have worked in several other systems too, including oil palm agriculture, cassava agriculture, and tropical rainforest. My research to date has focussed on testing the interaction between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, quantifying ecological redundancy and resilience, and ants in general.
I have also worked in evidence synthesis at Conservation Evidence, which sparked an interest in the ways that important practices, such as sharing data, are not currently well incentivised. I designed an author-level metric (the data-index) with this in mind, and am a committee member of the Society for Open, Reliable, and Transparent Ecology and Evolutionary biology (SORTEE).
Current Project:
SHOWCASE: Showcasing synergies between agriculture, biodiversity and ecosystem services to help farmers capitalising on native biodiversity (EU H2020).
