Responsibilities:

Co-Head of Department of Animal Sciences (with Dr Caroline Rymer).
Module convenor and contributor, teaching topics including undergraduate animal science in practice, animal Nutrition, and animal health and disease.
Research on improving the health quality of primarily milk and dairy products (but also monogastric-derived food products and ruminant-derived meat).
Research on nutritional physiology of domestic animals, and the effect of nutritional intervention on animal health.
Supervision and academic tutoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Member of the SAPD Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Self-Assessment Team for Athena Swan.

Areas of interest

Research interests include:

Improving the health quality of milk and dairy products (primarily improving the fatty acid profile) by changing the dairy cow diet.
Investigating the effect of the dairy matrix on the absorption of dairy fat.
Effect of dietary interventions on the health and welfare of the dairy cow.
Development of biomarkers in milk for the detection of dairy cow disease.
Presence of antimicrobial resistant bacteria in livestock.
In vitro digestion assessment of animal feeds (particularly fatty acid digestion).

In addition to module convening and classroom teaching, my interests include:

Enhancing undergraduate experience through teaching practical laboratory and research skills
Supervising laboratory-based undergraduate independent research projects and postgraduate students.
Increasing awareness of employment opportunities via contacts/visits with relevant employment sectors.
